after

You’ll build a solid theoretical foundation of what makes good flourishes.

Because you can’t create
what your mind doesn’t understand.

with the flourish families framework that is weaved into the whole of this course, you’ll:

Start using simple shapes as building blocks for flourishes.

Make your flourishes as simple as you want to, or turn the dial up for more intricate flourishes.

Know the ins and outs of flourishing, and tell the difference between right and wrong.

So you can put them into practice to easily create balanced flourishes that look elegant, not messy.

Build up your own library of endless flourishes for lowercase and uppercase letters.

You don’t need exemplars for inspiration anymore, because that’s how easy it is to come up with new variations.

kind words

“quickly improved my calligraphy”

Being fairly new to calligraphy it was good to learn correctly how to flourish rather than throwing loops here and there and wondering why it wasn’t quite right. It’s good to learn this early on. It has quickly improved my calligraphy, which would have taken so much longer by trial and error.

– lARISSA JENSEN

"Flourish families was the magical key"

I have taken several classes but felt like I was just copying until learning your approach. The flourish families was the magical key! I also think the notion of balancing the types of flourishes above/below and left/right was a revelation!

– Sarah LaBoda

"Explanation is always on point"

Her approach towards flourishing is quite analytical and balanced, which I appreciate! Her explanation is always on point and she ensures that all doubts are cleared. Also, the workshop handouts are excellent and pretty extensive, and everything has been explained well in detail!

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes! This course does not include the basics of calligraphy. Ideally, you should be comfortable writing the Copperplate alphabet with pointed pen tools — that’s what this course is based on and intended for.

Check out my resource hubs if you need some help with pointed pen calligraphy or Copperplate.

The “right time” to start learning flourishing differs from person to person. Ideally, you should be able to write the Copperplate alphabet fairly comfortably without needing to trace or reference an exemplar.

In the course, I’ve made it a point to write each letter in standard Copperplate before flourishing — but that is just quick revision!

You only need Internet connection, a printer and your preferred set of tools for pointed pen calligraphy. Just use whatever tools you’re already comfortable with for your calligraphy practice.

This course is great if you’ve already learned the basics of calligraphy, and want to take it to another level with flourishing. Don’t worry if you have no experience with flourishing! This is a beginner-friendly course that starts with the theory and basic principles of flourishing.

But if for any reason this course doesn’t fit your learning objectives, don’t worry. There’s a 14-day no-questions-asked (in good faith!) refund policy.

This course, especially the theories and flourish families framework woven throughout, can be helpful regardless of your tool or medium.

But this course is built with pointed pen calligraphy in mind, so:

  • If you’re doing digital calligraphy, the course doesn’t cover how to use and manipulate a digital brush for flourishing.

  • If you’re doing brush pen calligraphy, the handouts (with a 6mm x-height) might be too small for brush pens.

This course launches in end Nov 2024.

After that, as soon as you purchase the course, you’ll receive an email with the login details for immediate access so you can start learning right away.

You’ll have ongoing access for the lifetime of the course, so you can learn at your own pace. Go through the lessons slowly or quickly, or rewatch the videos as many times as you need to revise. You’ll also get access to any future updates I may make.

Yes! In fact, you’ll have ongoing support that isn’t limited to any course schedule. Email me at any time with any questions, problems or struggles that you’re facing.
